Launch My 500px From Within Your App

Windows Phone 8 has a great feature that allows apps to launch other apps. This is really useful for sharing photos on social networks.

We have implemented a custom URI schema which will give Windows Phone 8 devlopers the ability to utilize the My 500px experience for viewing, uploading and searching for photos on 500px. When directing users to 500px photos, you can use our URI to launch My 500px which will automatically display the photo details, search for keywords your provide and upload to 500px.

To implement our URI schema in your app:

You can launch My 500px as follows:

  • Photo View

my500px://Photo/{Photo Id}

  • Keyword Search

my500px://Search/{Keyword}

  • Upload

my500px://Upload/{Photo Name}

Examples:

To launch the photo http://500px.com/photo/21752927 in My 500px

  • Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync(new System.Uri(“my500px://Photo/21752927″));

Alternatively you can pass the complete url above as follows

To search for photos of snow cats in My 500px

  • Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync(new System.Uri(“my500px://Search/” + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(“snow cats”)));

To upload an image using My 500px, the image must first be saved in the Media Library

  • Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync(new System.Uri(“my500px://Upload/image_name”));

Please provide any feedback or questions you may have. And let us know if you have implemented our URI schema in your app!
